“I got a ticket a few days ago for going 106 km/h in a 100 km/h speed limit zone. And I want to tell you how to avoid paying it,” Cruz begins, while showing the location of the radar that issued the fine.

The first point Cruz mentions is technical. If the violation was captured by a fixed radar (not directly monitored by officers), there must be two valid photographs of the vehicle at the time of the violation. "If there is only one, it can be appealed, as required by law," the mechanic points out.

The second argument is more familiar, but still raises questions. It concerns the legal margin of error that radars must apply. “There's a 7% tolerance. So, if they detect me at 106 in a 100 zone, I'm within that margin. I shouldn't be fined,” he explains.

However, Cruz acknowledges that appealing isn't always convenient or quick. "If you don't want to complicate your life, you can also pay for it," he concludes ironically.
